Zwembad Parima has been part of Suriname’s swimming history for many decades. Since opening in 1958, the pool has served generations of swimmers and has played an important role in swimming lessons, school swimming, recreational swimming, lifeguard training and competitive swimming. It has also hosted local, regional and international swimming events.
To keep a swimming pool safe and hygienic, the pump room and filtration system must function properly. At Parima, the old pump house dated back to the 1960s and had become outdated. The structure showed signs of concrete deterioration, the pumps no longer worked optimally and the filtration system no longer met modern technical and hygiene standards.
This made renewal necessary. With Staatsolie’s support, Stichting Parima was able to replace the old system with a modern pump room, new pumps and an improved filtration system. The new installation supports better water circulation, improves water quality and helps reduce chlorine consumption. It also contributes to safer and more reliable daily operations.
The renewed pump room was officially commissioned on 8 May 2026. Through this project, Staatsolie contributed to the preservation of an important public sports facility. The support helps ensure that Zwembad Parima can continue serving children, young people, athletes and the wider community for years to come.
