Internships & summer jobs

At Staatsolie, we invest in the next generation. Whether through an internship or a vacation job, we give young people the chance to gain real experience and play a small part in building Suriname's future.

Internships

Learn by doing with real guidance

If your field of study connects to work at Staatsolie, you may be able to complete your internship with us. You’ll work on an assignment that fits both your studies and the department you join. During your internship, you’ll have a supervisor from your school and one from Staatsolie to guide you.

Frequently Asked Questions

You need an official internship assignment and a supervisor assigned by your school. You must also be available for the full placement and willing to take a drug test, paid for by Staatsolie. A negative result is required.

Internships last between 3 and 6 months, depending on your school’s requirements. Interns receive a monthly stipend.

Email your request to Stage_vakantiejob@staatsolie.com. Include your school name, field of study and any internship requirements from your school. You’ll receive a response within two weeks. As placements depend on available assignments, we recommend exploring other opportunities while you wait.

Summer jobs

Earn experience and income this summer

Earn work experience and income during your summer break. Each year, Staatsolie offers summer jobs to students from selected schools in Paramaribo, Wanica and Saramacca, the districts where we operate. The program is aimed at young people from lower-income households.

Depending on the placement, you may help with office tasks or operational support. You’ll gain experience working in a professional environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

You must be between 16 and 21 years old, attend one of the schools selected for that year and have no previous vacation job experience at Staatsolie. You must also be available Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 15:30, provide parental consent and a valid medical insurance card, sign a confidentiality agreement and be willing to take a drug test paid for by Staatsolie.

Summer jobs take place during the school break. There are two periods of three weeks, and you can participate in one period. Payment is made at the end of your period.

You cannot apply directly to Staatsolie. Each year, we select participating schools and share the criteria with their directors. If you’re interested, ask your school whether it is participating and how students are selected.

After your placement

Internship or summer job done, what’s next?

There is no fast track to employment following a placement at Staatsolie. Everyone goes through the same process. If you're interested in a full-time role, you'll need to apply through our standard recruitment procedure when a suitable vacancy opens.

Our advice? Finish your studies first. Having your diploma will open far more doors and take you further in your career at Staatsolie and beyond.
