The J.E. Stadion, also known as the Jacques Eliazer Stadion, is an important sports and community facility in Saramacca. The stadium is used by athletes, sports clubs, young people and residents for football, recreational activities and community gatherings. As a public sports facility, it contributes to youth development, physical activity and social connection within the district.
Over time, several parts of the stadium needed improvement to keep the location functional and comfortable for users and visitors. The renovation focused on facilities that directly affect the experience of athletes, spectators and event organizers. These included improvements to the grandstand, lighting, sanitary facilities and public access areas.
With Staatsolie’s support, the stadium facilities were upgraded to better serve the community. The renovation included a renewed grandstand with a sun and rain cover, improved lighting, upgraded sanitary facilities, a public toilet group and improvements to the ticket booth, including a new ceiling and painting work. These upgrades help make the stadium more suitable for regular sports activities and public events.
The renovated J.E. Stadion was reopened on 7 February 2026. Through this project, Staatsolie contributed to the strengthening of sports infrastructure in Saramacca. The support helps create a more welcoming and reliable facility where athletes, young people and community members can continue to come together, participate in sports and enjoy local events.
