Background Information

As part of Staatsolie’s Helping Hands programme, a team of Downstream employees volunteered at Johannes Vrolijk MULO School 1 in Lelydorp. With strong teamwork and a hands-on approach, the group refreshed several classrooms and renovated the school’s toilet block in just one day. Their efforts gave the school a practical make-over and helped improve the daily learning environment for both students and teachers.

The project focused on visible, useful improvements that could make an immediate difference. By painting classrooms and upgrading sanitary facilities, the volunteers contributed to a cleaner, brighter and more welcoming school setting. These improvements support a more pleasant atmosphere where students can focus on learning and teachers can work in a more comfortable environment.

This initiative reflects the purpose of the Helping Hands programme: bringing Staatsolie employees together to support communities and institutions where practical assistance is needed. Through their time, energy and commitment, the volunteers helped create meaningful impact beyond the workplace. The project at Johannes Vrolijk MULO School 1 shows how employee involvement, combined with company support, can contribute to stronger schools and better community facilities.
