Blue Wave Supplier Development Program

The Blue Wave Supplier Development Program prepares Surinamese businesses for opportunities in the growing offshore energy sector. Through training, coaching and practical tools, the program helps local companies strengthen their capabilities, meet international standards and position themselves for sustainable growth.

The development of Suriname’s offshore energy industry presents significant opportunities for local businesses. To help ensure these opportunities contribute to long-term economic growth, Staatsolie launched the Blue Wave Supplier Development Program in collaboration with its industry partners. The program is designed to strengthen the capabilities of small and medium-sized enterprises and prepare them to participate in local and international supply chains.

Over a six-month period, participating companies receive access to expert-led workshops, coaching, assessments and practical resources. The program helps businesses identify operational gaps, improve internal processes and align with international business requirements commonly applied by major corporations operating in the energy sector.

Training focuses on seven key business areas: Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE), Cyber Security, Quality, Corporate Policies, Financial Management, Technical Capabilities, and Sustainability and ESG. Through self-assessments, gap analyses and tailored development plans, participants gain valuable insights into areas where improvements can strengthen their competitiveness and readiness for future opportunities.

Beyond improving individual businesses, the program supports the wider development of local content in Suriname. By helping companies meet internationally recognized standards, Blue Wave contributes to the creation of a stronger local supplier base that can participate more effectively in the offshore oil and gas industry and other sectors. This strengthens the local economy, promotes knowledge transfer and helps ensure that more value generated by industry growth remains within Suriname.

Since its launch, the program has supported multiple cohorts of Surinamese companies, equipping them with the knowledge, tools and confidence needed to pursue new business opportunities, accelerate growth and contribute to the country’s economic development.
