Staatsolie Power Company Suriname N.V. (SPCS) is the power generation subsidiary of Staatsolie, incorporated in 2006. SPCS owns and operates two complementary electricity generation facilities: a thermal plant in Tout Lui Faut and the Afobaka hydroelectric dam in Brokopondo.
Together, these provide 65 - 75% of the electricity needs of Greater Paramaribo and surrounding districts through the EPAR grid, supplied to Energiebedrijven Suriname (EBS) for distribution to end consumers. In addition, SPCS Thermal Power Station supplies electricity and process steam to Staatsolie Refinery.

WHAT SPCS DOES
Hydroelectric generation
SPCS operates the Afobaka hydroelectric dam in Brokopondo, taken over on 1 January 2020. With an installed capacity of 189 MW, it is the backbone of Suriname's renewable electricity supply, covering at least 42% of the EPAR demand.
Thermal generation
The thermal power plant in Tout Lui Faut, operational since 2006, has an installed capacity of 96 MW. It generates both electricity and process steam. The steam is supplied to Staatsolie's refinery, while electricity feeds the EPAR grid and refinery.
Grid supply
SPCS supplies electricity to Energiebedrijven Suriname (EBS), which distributes it to households and businesses across Greater Paramaribo and surrounding districts via the EPAR grid.
Industrial steam supply
Process steam generated at the thermal plant in Tout Lui Faut is delivered directly to Staatsolie's refinery, supporting oil processing operations and reducing the refinery's reliance on own fuel-firing steam production.

Taken over by SPCS on 1 January 2020, this dam on the Suriname River has been powering the country for decades. It provides at least 42% of the electricity in the EPAR grid and is Suriname's primary source of renewable power.
Tout Lui Faut, Wanica
Thermal Power Plant
96 MW
In operation since 2006 , this plant uses heavy fuel oil to generate both electricity and process steam. It provides 25% of the electricity demand on the EPAR grid and covers part of the steam demand for Staatsolie's refinery.
