First group of NATIN Oil and Gas training graduates
The Oil and Gas training of NATIN (Natuur Technisch Institute) has its first group of graduates. Ten students received their certificates on Friday, 25 October 2024.
The Oil and Gas training of NATIN (Natuur Technisch Institute) has its first group of graduates. Ten students received their certificates on Friday, 25 October 2024.
The Oil and Gas training started in 2022 with a group of thirty students. The ten students who successfully completed the 18-month training received their certificates.
Intensive training
The program has intensively prepared the students for a career in the oil and gas sector. In three phases, they were taught the necessary skills required to work in the oil and gas sector and which will enable them to meet international standards. The training was completed with a professional practice orientation in which the students gained practical experience with oil and gas installations and equipment. The requirement to participate in the training, entailed that students must have a diploma in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or process engineering.
The Oil and Gas training is part of the NATIN Upgrade Project. The institutes that played a role in setting up this training are: Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V., the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (OW&C), NATIN, the Surinamese business community and the international oil companies active in Suriname. The training aims to prepare local talent for participation in the growing oil and gas industry.
Long term vision
By training Surinamese youngsters for specific jobs in the oil and gas sector, we contribute to the growth of the national economy and the creation of employment in the long term. Staatsolie is convinced that the NATIN training will increase the number of Surinamese people and companies that can supply products and services to the offshore oil and gas industry. This is called local content.
Local content can be described as the extent to which Surinamese companies and citizens participate in the economic activities that offshore discoveries entail. This concerns the supply of local goods and services and the creation of jobs by Surinamese people.
